On a dark and stormy night in Columbus, Ohio, local radio station 99.7 The Blitz presented the Summer Kick-off Concert featuring Halestorm. Along with Halestorm was the classic 90s band Stone Temple Pilots and the young Kentucky band, Black Stone Cherry.
The Kentucky band began the night with a welcome set bringing the soggy crowd to their feet. Leading off with such hits as Me and Mary Jane, Burnin' and Again. I have seen Black Stone Cherry before and they never disappoint. Next, Stone Temple Pilots came out and riled the crowd even further with massive hits from their extensive catalog having the whole crowd singing along. Classics like Down, Vasoline, Plush, Interstate Love Song, and Dead & Bloated could be heard echoing in the night.
Lzzy Hale lead the band onto the stage explosively like all legendary rock and heavy metal vocalists before her. She drives the music with her hard riffs and throaty voice, bringing the fans out of their seats. Opening the show with “Freak like me” shows her confident and female-forward attitude that pulls you in and hits you rightin the chest. The cohesion of the band with the guitar magic of Joe Hottinger and the powerful deep rhythm section of Josh Smith and Arejay Hale brings them all togther. Arejay is always entertaining to watch on the drums with his unpredictable style and power like a veteran quarterback winning the Superbowl MVP. Introducing the new album “Back from the Dead” with “Steeple” followed by the live debut of “Psycho Crazy” brought the newest music of the band to the crowd continuing the night of heavy rock. After Arejay’s entertaining and climactic drum solo Halestorm finished the night strong with new and old favorites leaving the crowd wanting more. If you ever get a chance to see Halestorm, STP or Black Stone Cherry live you will not be disappointed!
